Woke up early today (10am?) to headed out to the beach with some friends. The water was freezing, but so was the beer so we’ll call it a wash. Heh, I actually had a great time with bbq and frisbees too . I had been meaning to get out to the beach more often, but somehow the summer is already ending so, bleh.

After the beach Kristen and I headed to the movies, we weren’t really sure what was out and when we got there the only things that looked remotely interesting were the new Star Wars flick, Pineapple Express, and Tropic Thunder. I hadn’t heard anything positive about the Star Wars movie, so it was down to the two comedies. For the most part, I am not really into ‘stupid’ comedies that much as I like a film with a little more substances, but both of these looked promising. We went with Tropic Thunder and it didn’t disappoint.

My take on the film:

I can’t stand Ben Stiller. However, this is his best direction yet and the second time in a production that I don’t feel like he mostly took away from the film (the other being The Royal Teenbaums). I don’t really understand his decision to go with a child as the leader of the ‘real’ bad guys, but other than that the film was put together nicely. Robert Downey Jr. by far stole the show, and is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. Jack Black also did a great job with a semi weak character and had some of the best one liners throughout the movie. The last star of the film was Tom Cruise, who actually acted for the first time in recent memory, playing a role for once that was not simply a cocky overachieving asshole. LOL, ok, maybe that was his role, but he did it well. I’ll give the movie about a 7.5/10 and because I can’t ever imagine giving a film in this genre a rating higher than an 8, it is definitely worth a seeing.

After the movie we got sushi and it was good as usual. I have a theory that the more sushi I eat the closer I become to becoming good at poker like Raptor. Speaking of which, my play today went about this far:
