After losing quite a bit lately I decided to move down in limits and play $10 full ring for a while to catch my breath, gain some confidence and maybe stop the bleeding a little bit. After 9 days of playing lower, I am back up about 12 BI and I also managed to bag a decent finish in one of the Sunday freerolls on RPM. I am feeling a lot better about my game and should be back in the black soon.
One of the things that I have realized lately is this: Playing $10 or $25 NLHE on RPM is like playing for play chips on Pokerstars. Really…..I am not kidding! You really have to play a solid, tight game and not get real creative. The number of times I have gone to showdown only to have someone show 47 suited for the flush or 85 off with the rivered trips is just unreal. Once you make allowances for that I think the games are pretty easy. I don’t see much difference between the 10 & 25 limits honestly, the pots just get bigger. One other mistake I think I made was jumping in to 6 max without a complete understanding of the differences in the game. I probably won’t play as much 6 max until I feel more comfortable with the nuances of the game, it really is a different game IMO.
Got a chance to play some on Stars in the last week or two as well, had a couple of final tables in the 180 man SNG’s including one win. Now that I worked up a decent amount on Stars I will probably switch over to more cash games there, with a couple of 180’s thrown in for good measure. Is it just me or are these starting to get a little tougher? I know they are starting to take longer, they used to last just about 2 1/2 hours or so, now it is routine to go 3 hours and not be at the FT.
That’s about all I have for now, I hope everyone has a good and Happy Thanksgiving. If you have some extra dollars this week, take the time help out a family or two that could really use it. If you don’t know where to look, call a church, food bank or homeless shelter near you. I am sure they will help you find someone that could use the assistance. It will do as much for you as for them, I promise.
